Jack Fischer Gallery
Opening reception: June 1st | 5pm–7pm
Jack Fischer Gallery is pleased to present the face of another, a solo exhibition of Vivienne Flesher’s portrait work.
The paintings in this exhibition seem to be informed by fleeting moments of recognition – a recognition and conversation between subject and viewer.
Through an averted gaze filled with secrets and hidden emotions, hidden but alas to no avail, Flesher spares no one. And in spite of the rare direct locking of the eyes with us, we are still left with the mystery of that face, or as the title states: the face of another. Or is it the other?
It’s that persona we do our very best to keep hidden, as it is best for all involved, best to obfuscate our true selves and meanings.
In spite of all the veiling, Flesher brings us closer to the character of each of these personalities in what might be considered a visual novel.
Vivienne Flesher has a long and illustrious (“pun intended”) history as an illustrator. Her career spans U.S. stamps, New York Times, Washington Post, The New Yorker, Starbucks and Rolling Stone Magazine, to name a few. Flesher has shown her paintings in New York, Tokyo, Shanghai, Venice, and Nashville.
