Opening reception + book signing: Saturday, October 7th | 5–7pm

Electric Works is pleased to present “Ungrateful Mammals,” a solo exhibition by Dave Eggers at our pop-up space at Minnesota Street Project.  Eggers will transform the gallery with a series of animal (both mammal and non-mammal) drawings and invites the viewers to take part in physically rearranging the exhibition.  The gallery will be set up with a shelf along its interior walls on which myriad drawings on panels will rest.  In the middle of the gallery will be several “record bins” holding additional works which visitors are encouraged to rearrange on the shelves as they see fit.  
At the opening, Eggers will be signing copies of the not-yet-released Ungrateful Mammals (Abrams, 2017), along with his newly-published children’s book, Her Right Foot (Chronicle Books, 2017) and the inventive print portfolio It Is Right to Draw Their Fur (McSweeney’s, 2010).  

Dave Eggers is the author of many books, including The Circle, What Is the What, A Hologram for the King, and the forthcoming The Monk of Mokha.

He is founder of McSweeney's, an independent publishing company based in San Francisco that produces books, a humor website, and a journal of new writing, McSweeney's Quarterly Concern. Eggers is the co-founder of 826 National, a network of youth writing and tutoring centers around the United States. Numerous other organizations worldwide operate with inspiration from the 826 National model. 

All artist proceeds from the sale of these works directly benefit ScholarMatch. Realizing the need for greater college access for low-income students, Eggers founded ScholarMatch, a nonprofit organization designed to connect students with resources, schools and donors to make college possible.

Trained as a painter, Eggers’s artworks have been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, the Nevada Museum of Art, the Biennial of the Americas, and numerous other galleries and art spaces. Eggers is winner of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the TED Prize, and has been a finalist for the National Book Award, the Pulitzer Prize, and the National Book Critics Circle Award.
