New Community Leadership Foundation presents Synesthesia: SoundColor 2018, an exhibition of paintings and new media works by Peter Shaw.
The exhibition presents works from Shaw’s ongoing painting series “Dressed,” along with new media works created in collaboration with the artist’s vast network of friends and colleagues in the art, music, science and technology industries. Proceeds from sales will support the Stanford Genome Technology Center, and NCLF’s Literacy in Technology program for less advantaged youth in San Francisco and East Palo Alto. Included in the exhibition is a new media installation utilizing video projection on “Renaissance DNA” art papers fabricated by Donald Farnsworth of Magnolia Editions. This paper making process invented by Farnswoth recreates the quality of papers used in the14th – 16th century.
On December 8 from 4-5 PM, Donald Farnsworth and Professor Ronald Davis, director of the Genome Technology Center at Stanford University will be in conversation about the Renaissance DNA art paper project.
Blue, Green, Red, 2018, a new work comprised of 88 iPad Pro tablets from Shaw’s iPad Pro-as-medium series, will be installed for the opening reception on December 7, and activated with compositions by guest performers virtuoso pianist Allison Lovejoy, and avant-garde musician Mauro ffortissimo, creator of Sunset Piano.
Proceeds of iPad Pro-as-medium artwork supports New Community Leadership Foundation’s Literacy with Technology program for youth in San Francisco and East Palo Alto. Sales of DNA Art Paper artworks will contribute to advance research in cure-discover for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME-CFS in affiliation with the Genome Technology Center at Stanford University
The New Community Leadership Foundation began in 2012 in San Francisco with a mission to civically engage the black community in San Francisco through cultural upliftment, bridging social gaps and economic representation.
