Bass & Reiner is proud to present a duo show featuring recent paintings by Ray Mack and Sarah Sarchin. The exhibition will focus on works by both artists that paraphrase symbols, poses, and whole compositions from historical imagery with the intent of repurposing and calling into questions the meaning and significance of the originals. Across striking formal dissimilarity, the works exhibited all revolve around the representational legacy of women created by men and, to varying degrees, the idea of reclaiming that legacy.

About the Artists:
Ray Mack received her BA in Studio Arts from Bard College in 2006 and her MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2012. Mack has exhibited at Abmeyer+Wood, Seattle, WA; The Lab, San Francisco, CA; S.H.E.D Project, Oakland, CA; the Clymer Museum, Ellensburg, WA; and the Zimmer Gallery, Tel Aviv, Israel. This is her second time showing with Bass & Reiner after the highly acclaimed 2016 exhibition Thinking of You. She is currently based in Seattle, WA. More information here.

Sarah Sarchin received her BA in Interdisciplinary Visual Art from the University of Washington in 2004 and her MFA in Painting from UCLA in 2016. Sarchin’s work has been included in shows at Infinity Room, Los Angeles, CA; Dread Lounge, Los Angeles, CA; The Pit, Los Angeles, CA; and the A.I.R. Gallery, Brooklyn, NY. This is her first exhibition in the Bay Area. She lives and works in Los Angeles.
