Jack Fischer Gallery is pleased to present i would lie to me, the fourth solo show with the gallery by Chicago-based artist, Lora Fosberg. 

Employing clever, accessible, arguably subversive mechanisms to reach the masses – humor, self-deprecation, beauty and skill, Lora Fosberg allows us to both tolerate and even embrace our egocentric and destructive selves. Throughout the years and in her own unique visual language, she has expertly and unpretentiously used different forms of two dimensional and three dimensional materials to give a fresh look at familiar ground – the “stuff” of our everyday lives. Our own trials and tribulations, the foibles and frailties of our being and the interrelationships of diverging and contradictory emotions intentionally, yet easily, sneak from the masterful narratives and compositions of her work into the viewer’s head.

Visually appealing, mesmerizing and executed in a soft, lighthearted and approachable pallet, Fosberg conveys self-reflective, personal, social and sometimes tragic content. She writes of feeling like we’re “more at a tipping point than ever before”, and as intelligent human beings, her art tells us that our vainglory should be at an all-time low. So perhaps the pill to remind us that we are both our own worst enemy as well as each other’s only friend is to look closer at our flaws and imperfections and maybe recognize what having a vision can accomplish.

Lora Fosberg has exhibited widely throughout the United States and abroad. Recent solo exhibitions include Linda Warren Projects in Chicago, Jack Fischer Gallery in San Francisco, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and the Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City. Fosberg received her BFA from the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL and her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Fosberg’s work is in the holdings of such collections as Kirkland & Ellis and Eaton Center in Cleveland, as well as numerous prestigious private collections. Recent commissions include installations at Naha Restaurant and Brindille Restaurant, and she was also the 2015 James Beard Award Winner for Outstanding Restaurant Design.
