Greg Rick: Active Shooter At My Baptism

Bass & Reiner presents Gregory Rick’s first solo exhibition Active Shooter At My Baptism. Currently an MFA candidate at Stanford, Rick began making art shortly after returning from Iraq where he served in the US Army. With this series of paintings, he offers perfectly violent, colorful, large-scaled versions of skewed yet familiar tales inspired by graffiti art and muralist traditions. Rick’s work addresses life-like narratives while navigating between personal tragedies, loss and a sense of duty, contemplating the meaning of universal chaos and its manifestation, or what he calls the “conjunction of memory and self exploration reflecting on the absurdness and monumentality of history.”
