Altman Siegel is pleased to present SOIL EROSION, an exhibition curated by Shannon Ebner and featuring more than twenty artists. The original call for soil erosion sought to maneuver around its title. It spoke of states’ erosions, climate erosions, cultural erosions, and social erosions; soil as land, body, and soiling; erosion as eros, loss, and desire, and as potential for new clearings. Taken together, the works in SOIL EROSION are a collection of such starting points, placed in a larger narrative field where meaning and the cultural and political circumstances of our living conditions transmute each other to cast doubt and shore up new certainties.

*Rirkrit Tiravanija’s work will be exhibited in the media room at Minnesota Street Project (1275 Minnesota Street) for the duration of the exhibition.

Shannon Ebner’s work has been exhibited widely in the United States and Europe, and is included in the public collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; the Bard Hessel Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Ebner's work has also been included in group exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Tate Modern, London; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Moscow Museum of Modern Art; Presentation House, Vancouver; and Künstlerhaus Austria. Ebner’s work was shown at the 31st Biennial of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana (2015); the 54th Venice Biennale (2011); the 6th Berlin Biennale of Contemporary Art (2010); and the Whitney Biennial, New York (2008). Additionally, Ebner has presented solo exhibitions at Eva Presenhuber, New York (2017), Altman Siegel, San Francisco (2014, 2010); kaufmann repetto, Milan (2014, 2010); Sadie Coles HQ, London (2013); and Wallspace, New York (2013, 2009, 2007, 2005). Previous publications by Ebner include A Public Character (ICA Miami and ROMA, 2016); A HUDSON YARD, in collaboration with David Reinfurt (Friends of the High Line, 2015); Auto Body Collision (Carnegie Museum of Art, 2015); STRIKE (Mousse, 2015); and The Sun as Error (Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 2009).
