Liam Everett presents Fais semblant qu’on n’est pas ici, a solo exhibition of new paintings and sculpture which will include a raised floor similar to the artist’s recent installation at SFMOMA. Building on investigations explored in his 2017 SECA Art Award, Everett will present a new body of work that unfolds interrelated systems and interpretations of support. Fais semblant qu’on n’est pas ici, which translates to pretend we are not here, continues along these investigative threads; the physical act of supporting a painting, the routine practice an artist undertakes daily, as well as pedagogical rituals shaped through rehearsal.

Liam Everett lives and works in Sebastopol, California. Born in 1973 in Rochester, New York, Everett received an MFA from California College of the Arts (2012). He has had solo exhibitions at Galerie Kamel Mennour, Paris (2017); Altman Siegel, San Francisco (2012–13 and 2016); Eleni Koroneou Gallery, Athens (2015); Office Baroque, Brussels (2015); On Stellar Rays, New York (2014); Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York (2011); and White Columns, New York (2009). His work has been included in group exhibitions such as The SECA Art Award Exhibition, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2017); A Slow Succession with Many Interruptions, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2016–17); Biennale of Painting, Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Deurle, Belgium (2016); I Know You Got Soul, Arndt Singapore (2015); The Presence of the Present, di Rosa, Napa (2014–15); and Color Shift, U.C. Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (2014). He has also exhibited at venues such as Headlands Center for the Arts, Sausalito, California (2013); San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art (2013); CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, San Francisco (2012); and 303 Gallery, New York (2010). Everett has received the SECA Art Award at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2017), the Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship at the San Francisco Art Institute (2013) and the San Francisco Artadia Award (2013). Inutile, a special edition artist’s book, was co-published in 2015 by RITE Editions, San Francisco; Altman Siegel, San Francisco; and On Stellar Rays, New York City.
