The San Francisco Art Book Fair (SFABF) is pleased to announce its sixth year at Minnesota Street Project. Open July 14 through July 16, 2023, with a preview the evening of Thursday, July 13 from 6:00 pm–10:00 pm, SFABF is free and open to the public. In addition to over 160 exhibitors, the preview will feature music from local DJs Jeremy Castillo (Bar Part Time), Golden Gram and Daring Ear (Outer Sounds), food trucks and a natural wine bar by Ruby Wine including refreshments by Bardos Cider. SFABF is an annual multi-day exhibition and celebration of printed material from independent publishers, artists, designers, collectors, and enthusiasts from around the world. Launched in 2016 as a joint collaboration between Colpa Press, Minnesota Street Project, and Park Life, the fair’s popularity has grown steadily. As of 2022, the SFABF has welcomed more than 60,000 visitors from the Bay Area and beyond. The fair continues to expand its horizons, offering more in-depth programming related to art publishing at three different on-site venues, new exhibitors, and exciting fundraising editions from Bay Area artists. This year, we are happy to announce that the SFABF is being presented by the Minnesota Street Project Foundation.

Adding to the excitement of the fair, we’ve included Minnesota Street Project Foundation's new exhibition space at 1201 Minnesota Street. In addition to the 80 exhibitors at 1275 Minnesota, 1201 will feature 75 publishers from around the world whose practices are dedicated to accessible and inventive forms of bookmaking and publishing. The complete list of exhibitors is available at sfartbookfair.com.

The fair places the unique history and perspectives of the Bay Area in conversation with national and international publishing communities. SFABF features artists’ books, art catalogs, monographs, periodicals, zines, printed ephemera, and artists’ multiples. These items are presented by over 160 publishers, antiquarian dealers, artists, and galleries from the Bay Area and around the world.

Over the course of the weekend the SFABF will feature a variety of talks, discussions, book launches, special projects, and signings curated by David Senior, Chief of Library and Archives at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). One of these programs will be a conversation with Héctor Muñoz-Guzmán and Vivian Sming, in celebration of the launch of Brown Eyes from Russell Street. Brown Eyes from Russell Street traces Héctor Muñoz-Guzmán’s artistic practice during a transformative and critical period in his life—contending with isolation, mental health struggles, hospitalization, and alcoholism. Presented by Sming Sming Books. Is now the time for joyous rage? is the fourth book in A Series of Open Questions, which is published by the Wattis and Sternberg Press, and distributed by MIT Press. For this launch event, several contributors have chosen to highlight a piece from the book (other than their own). In a series of short presentations, they will read and/or introduce the piece and why they chose it. The full schedule will be announced soon. In addition to our featured exhibitors, a robust programming schedule, and outdoor activities, the SFABF will also offer a range of fundraising editions, including a limited edition screen-printed tote bag from Bay Area artist Marbie and a UV print on aluminum by Lauren D’Amato, produced by Lightsource SF. Sales directly support the SFABF and help ensure future free, exciting, and inclusive fair-going experiences for the public.
