Join us for an evening of delicious snacks, cocktails, a panel discussion and a pop-up art exhibition by Hatecopy inspired by chef Heena Patel. The evening's panel discussion features Chef Heena Patel, Maria Qamar (Hatecopy), and Geetika Agrawal (Program Director of La Cocina) moderated by Hana Baba, host of “Crosscurrents” on KALW.
Chef Heena and Maria Qamar will both be showcasing their newest work. For Chef Heena, it’s her reinvented menu that pushes the boundaries of traditional Indian cuisine in the Bay Area. For Hatecopy, it’s her new collection of art inspired by Chef Heena and the theme, “Are you Besharam Enough?” at Minnesota Street Project. The installation will be on display at the gallery throughout the weekend, July 11th-14th.
6:00-7:00PM: Snacks from Besharam’s new menu & gupshup (“chit-chat” in Gujarati) with Heena and Maria.
7:00-8:00PM: Are you Besharam Enough? panel discussion moderated by Hana Baba, host of “Crosscurrents” on KALW with Chef Heena Patel, Maria Qamar (Hatecopy), and Geetika Agrawal (Program Director of La Cocina)
8:00-10:00PM: Cocktails from the Besharam menu will be for sale, the restaurant is open for dinner reservations and the Gallery will be open late to view Maria's art.
More about Besharam’s Relaunch: Chef Heena started cooking professionally late in life. She was always told her goals were too besharam. With this relaunch Chef Heena is reclaiming her restaurant after a year of partnership and personifying the meaning of Besharam with a new attitude, dishes, and cocktails to show the community her creativity and technical culinary expertise. Grounded in traditional Gujarati food, the dishes on her new menu are meant to embody culture and hospitality. Bold flavors served family style, with a utensil optional approach in true Gujarati fashion, Heena's food is reminiscent of her experiences in Mumbai.
