12/11/2021 5:00pm 12/11/2021 6:00pm Multi-hyphenate: Working in Craft, Art, & Design

An in-person discussion with artists Agelio Batie, Tiersa Nureyev and Yvonne Mouser, moderated by Lisa Ellsworth.

This evening brings together three artists - craftspeople who straddle the worlds of functional object making with varied, concept-driven approaches. As Tiersa Nureyev points out: "Creatives often split their time toggling between multiple vocational roles (maker, designer, artist, or educator) yet can distill those creative threads into a single, multifaceted statement." The event is organized in conjunction with Tiersa Nureyev's The Lineal Project, an artist residency in the SFArtsED gallery at Minnesota Street Project.

There will also be a Pop-Up Shop in the SFArtsED gallery, featuring limited edition and unique works by these makers, Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 1–6 pm.

Tiersa Nureyev: Nureyev is the head creative director, designer, and maker for Stella Fluorescent. Her approach is multidisciplinary, materials driven and hands on. This methodology is realized in each Stella Fluorescent collection and also evident in her larger body of work. Tiersa has costumed for film, musical theatre and dance, and worked alongside fellow artists to create fiber-based structures and garments for gallery projects and set design.

Yvonne Mouser: Mouser is an Oakland based artist, designer, and builder engaged in creative practice that spans furniture product, spaces, fine art, and events. Yvonne investigates ideas through the making of objects, experimenting with concepts, materials, and methods with a foundation in the traditions of a woodworking studio.

Agelio Batle: The investigative nature of Agelio Batle's work may stem from his background in sciences - a BA in Biology from UC Santa Barbara. Agelio holds an MFA from California College of the Arts. His graphite objects, 22 years in the making, have been sold in curated shops throughout the world including The Smithsonian Museum, Noguchi Museum NY, Bon Marche (Paris), Beymen (Istanbul), and The Garage (Moscow).

Lisa Ellsworth, moderator: Formerly the Creative Manager of Workshop Residence, San Francisco based cultural producer and curator Lisa Ellsworth works with artists, designers, organizations and businesses interested in the production of objects, installations, exhibitions, and events.

This event is made possible in part by The Dawn Redwoods Trust, National Endowment for the Arts, and Crankstart.
